623: Cynical

Summary

623: Cynical

It's so easy to get cynical. But as Christians, when it comes to giving, do we EVER get to be cynical?

A key point that stood out to me was 'it's my duty to obey in the giving, when it's asked and especially when I know the spirit is telling me to give' & 'I am not the steward of the money I give, the reciever is the steward'. It's crazy how we think we need to 'control' the stewardship of a giving, when it's not ours to steward after it's given. Our's is only to obey to call to give.
I was helping chaperone a youth group to a youth conference, in inner city Detroit. Walking from the parking lot to the conference center, we passed a handful of homeless people, sitting & laying along the street. <sigh> The church pastoral team that was with us, instructed the kids & us to not look at or talk to the homeless people, they just want your money and they'll waste it, just keep moving. One of the other chaperones and I looked at each other, in amazement. Did he really just say that? It can be discouraging to see the church disobey the call and ignore some of our most important duties, as followers of Christ. I didn't say anything then. I should have. It takes those of us who see what we are to suppose to truely do, to take action. I will and have been, since then. I hope you will also.
