I heard this on the radio and I don't totally agree. This scripture in it's original text deals with sin as a judge would a first-time offender: he comes into his court and even though the law says he's guilty and deserving of a penalty, the judge (like God) said I will have grace - but don't let me see you in my court again (or as God said, "Go and sin no more)". Christians like to omit that last part. So YES we are forgiven time and time again - but we are not always acquitted of its penalty: thus the reason people die from obesity (gluttony), drinking and driving (“drink but do not get drunk” & “obey the laws of the land”), aids - STD's (fornication, adultery, homosexuality). The list goes on and on. God heals and forgives, yet as Romans 6:1-23 says best: "shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means!" God gave us grace as a tool to become more like Him and to demonstrate His love for us, not as a license to do whatever we want and pay no penalty.
If that were the case, He wouldn't ask us to discipline our children nor would the letters of Paul to the churches be written in the New Testament...
I totally agree with the 1st poster :) I also wrote up a post in disagreement with this message, but I accidentally posted it on the 7/21/10 message, if anyone wants to read it.
I agree with the posts above. I used to think I was a Christian but never attended church or read my bible. I knew my Mom had gotten pregnant with me during her senior yr of high school and her parents wanted her to have an abortion. Obviously she didn't, yet years later I actually had 2 abortions before meeting my husband who took me to church and I got saved. My past sin of abortion gone I don't beat myself up over it and actually have been blessed with 2 beautiful children. If there has been any remaining punishment its how much these kids test me - as many test their parents.
