Jeff, I can only pray that The Onion, in calling God an invention, is using SATIRE at its best. I believe the author strongly DISAPPROVES of the notion that God is an invention, as much as they do of some ridiculous aerosol can that shoots cheese into your mouth...

While I don't approve of all the satirical content The Onion produces, if you take it for what it is, you can find a hidden, deeper meaning... in this case, crying out that the picture we have of God should NOT be that of some made up thing to help us cope...but rather an undeniable, neverending source of love and grace.

I agree with you Chris. I caught the satire and that is why I talked about it here on Walk the Way. I believe that the Onion is making a brilliant observation about God and how He is treated.
