This past year I began a non profit organization to help the families in Flagler County, Fl in crisis because of the economy that has collapsed. We have over 170 homeless families in this tiny county alone. These are families that have children registered in school. We have one of the highest unemployment percent in the country.
Christmas Come True has been a true calling for me for years and I could not go one more year without starting the gears in action. We began raising money in September and by Christmas we had enough donated and did enough fund raisers to help 54 families
( 158 children) receive a complete Christmas dinner, each child received a new set of clothing, a Christmas Stocking with a donated haircut and goodies, and at least one or more new toys or gifts, such as MP3's, jewelry, gifts that the parents expressed the children wanted. We gave this to the parents with the understanding that they were the givers. We did it with the understanding that the parents gave these gifts to them, not us.
I am undertaking a new project this month and going forward that is to help the 170 plus families here that are homeless. I want to get all these families back into a safe, secure environment for the children, Rebuild the self-confidence of the parents and rebuild our community.
So many times, we look at huge tragedies and quickly respond to the media sad pics and splashy headlines without realizing that these same conditions are happening right under our noses. STOP,I say that is what world governments should do. We need to focus on our own communities, stop what is happening in your communities and you will stop gangs that kill and steal. You will help the community grow in strength.
Christmas Come True ( GOD) wakes me every morning telling what to do next and I can’t relax until I am up and doing something to help. It is the most rewarding feeling I have felt in years. It was always in me, I just had to do it.I had to follow what GOD was asking me to do.
