What a lifechanging challange! Giving people a place to go is very powerful. Essentially what we are telling them is, "yes, you've messed up--but you are still loved." That is such a powerful message to a hurting person.
Great topic to discuss!
What are some real life ideas on how to be a refuge for someone?

I agree with CIG, this a powerful message. I pray that someday I will become a refuge for those who have just plain ol' messed up!!! Right now I find myself as the refugee trying to get my life back on track, searching for a place or individuals to understand my circumstance, acknowledge that, yes, you have messed up, and, yes, we accept and love you just the way you are. I believe that I have found a church, with CHRIST followers who will do just that. In the recent past, that refuge, even from a past church that I attended, from friends and family also, those places or people of refuge have closed and locked their city gates. How alone you feel, when because of "life's circumstances", some of which you helped create some of which you didn't, puts you in a place you never thought you would find yourself. You do have a choice on how to handle these types of life changing challenges, you can become bitter towards life, or even at GOD, and stay there down in that pit of despair, or you can admit, which has been hard for me, that yes your life is messed up, but you can build from this season in your life, not to just get yourself out of the muck, but let GOD build upon and use your life's circumstances to be there as a helping hand, a place of refuge in the future for those who find themselves lost and hurting and needing shelter from this worlds intentional and unintenional pits we find ourselves in.
I need to close this by thanking some CHRIST followers who do have this place of refuge that GOD wants us to be "thing" down, and are living it in their lives when at the church, but most importantly, the other six days when they are not. Thank you to our Jericho Road family who opened the doors of their city gates and welcomed us in, you surely know how to show the love, the peace of CHRIST!!!!
