I cant help to wonder if being embarrassed about Jesus is because we are worried about what others might think of us if we admit it??? Ya know if I am honest it was alot easier for me to share my faith with a complete stranger and not be embarrassed a bit... but when I was first saved it was hard and aukward for me to share my faith with those close to me. Now its easier, but there has been times when I would run into an old friend that I used to be involved in all kinds of sin with them and the thought crossed my mind what will they think of me if I share my faith with them, I dont want them to think I am some kind of sissy cause I believe in Jesus. Why those thoughts??? I dont know? Satin maybe throwing firey darts into my head? Possible! So now no matter how hard it is or how weak they might think I am I DO share my faith and I know I am not weak for following Jesus! I grow stronger everyday!
Amen
I listen to you often on the radio and I was schocked the last time you spoke of your son being in "school". I was very sad this morning to hear that your 8 year old son is already embarassed to write a saving knowledge of Jesus as a spelling sentence. You were suprised to hear that your son was embarassed and I am not sure why when the bible clearly says: What does light have in common with darkness. The bible also commands: "And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your home, when you walk by the way, when you lie down and when you rise up." Deut 6:6-7 I don't feel that a Christian man as strong as you are should be setting the example that "school" is the place where we should send our little lambs to be the "light" in a setting full of goats. Private or public doesn't matter when your child is away from the safety that God allowed for him to have in your home. The Lord did not give you His precious son so you could send him off to someone else to teach Him. If you are so led to teach so many via the radio why not start with your first ministry at home. I am not trying to be harsh but the Lord has allowed us to bring up warriors for Christ. "For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works". Titus 2:11. When the Lord gave you the job as a father it did not leave room for failure. "Whoever causes one of these little ones to stumble it would be better for him for a millstone to be hung around his neck and he were drowned in the depth of the sea" Matthew 18:6
The fact that an 8 year old is embarrassed to confess his faith is not as disturbing as some of the comments and theories in the above reply. First, the issue of whether to home school or not has valid arguements on both sides and those individual circumstances must be considered as to whether it is the right decision for your child. These little "goats" that share our playgrounds, sports fields, our own city streets, etc., are our neighbors and if I do recall, and I am certainly no biblical scholar, I thought we are to love our neighbor "goats"!! As far as bringing up warriors for CHRIST, if our little warriors never venture outside the safety net of our homes and comfortable, sheltered church walls, surrounded only by others who share the same beliefs, there is little need to raise a warrior at all. A warrior is successful only when he or she can engage with the enemy, and hopefully the enemy is found outside our homes and churches. Beyond our Holy huddles and comfortable church settings lies a whole world of goats, lost, hurting goats that are looking for an answer, looking for hope that they cannot find anywhere other than in the forgiving arms of our LORD and SAVIOR.I have a special place in my heart for those "goats" because I was one. I grew up in a loving home, not a Christian home, and it wasn't until this "goat" had a few whiskers, that someone took the chance to extend the loving hand and heart of CHRIST to a nonbeliever, this person had no fear of getting close to this smelly "goat" and I will forever praise GOD for him. By the way, Jeff, may GOD bless you in your attempt at being a perfect, failure free father, I thought there was only one.....but if you can pull it off then kudos to you!!!!! I am sorry, but this type of thinking seems to limit our evangelism to those who are already in our family of believers. And by the way Joseph, I fail and get a little embarrassed at times too!!!
My Husband and I were also "goats" raised in the public school system and I was also raised by non-believers. My Husband was saved at 33 years and I at 30. The school system did not lead us to christ it kept us from Him. Whether public or private the school system was not developed in the bible, it was created by man at a much later date. Adam and Eve were homeschooled by God himself. Jesus our Savior was not sent off to a school. He was even taught his trade by his own father. As far as the goats and sheep, they were both clean animals according to levitical law however their natures were very different. Shepherds regularly herded their sheep and goats together but there came a point where the two had to be seperated. "When the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then He will sit on the throne of His glory. All the nations will be gathered before Him, and He will separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats and He will set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left". Matthew 25:31-33 If you have a problem with the term goat then please take it up with the creator of the universe. We have chosen to sacrifice and follow the Lord's command to "teach our children diligently" at home the word of God in order to allow our children to be warriors. My 5 year old just this afternoon told me that he wanted to make sure that he stayed on the right path to Jesus (his words) and when a "neighbor" walked by he asked him his dogs name and if he knew Jesus and the holy spirit. My 10 year old evangelizes at the park and grocery store or wherever we happen to be that day. Homeschooling does not keep your children isolated at home it allows you the time to equip them to be warriors for CHRIST so that one day when they are prepared they can be on their own to lead those lost souls to our loving Lord and Savior. I agree that some families are not able to homeschool due to family issues such as unsafe environments alcohol/drug abuse etc. But for the saved Dad's/Mom's who just "need some me time", or the numerous one's who have told me "I just couldn't be around my child all day" they are choosing to disobey the word of God to follow their own fleshly needs. Our children should be given the opportunity to feel safe and secure enough to evangelize to the world in the shadowing of their own parents. "For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek". Romans 1:16 Keep the eternal perspective. "Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven". Matthew 18:4 How are we to have our little children wholeheartedly following Him when they are in a school that does not allow the word of God to be spoken and if it is a Christian school I have spoken to many a family who knows that the word Christian should be taken out because just as much sin goes on there as in the public schools. I am not perfect but I am willing to humble myself before the Lord and follow His will for my life. In Him,
Hi
I agree with everything Brook had to say! She is right on. I too went to public school and then a Christian college. At two different times I tried to get saved at college, but IT DID NOT HAPPEN. No "good Christian neighbor" led me to the Lord because they were equipped by the public or private "fool" system instead of being discipled by their parent's with the Word of God! I did not get saved until I was 26 yrs. old. The Bible is very clear about how we are to raise our children. When Jesus started his public ministry he had the disciples with him for 3 years, he did not send them off somewhere each and every day to learn from others. He had to equip them first so they could go out to minister to the world.
